A TAANIT ESTHER QUESTION

Question:

I’m not able to safely fast.

But with Taanit Esther (the Fast of Esther) coming this year in a time of communal danger for many Jews, fast days have taken on extra importance.

Should I try to fast despite the potential for danger that fasting poses for me?

Our answer:

When fasting could cause danger, it is a mitzvah to eat.

This includes fast days in difficult times like these.

while having a mitzvah to eat, please see our article.
